Through the support of the Cambridge Community Fund, Sawston
Youth Group was able to buy sit on canoes, and a stand up paddle board. The aim was to provide recreational and sporting
opportunities, to young people after Covid 19.
Although the group has kayaks, it did not have any sit on
boats which some young people prefer. Through the grant we also bought a tandem sit on boat, which
will be used to help those young people in the group, that are less able
or disabled to enable them to enjoy outdoor pursuits.
The grant has added a new dimension to the outdoor canoeing
that the group offers, and will enable many more young people to benefit from
being in the countryside after Covid. Also the grant presents new opportunities for young people
to learn new skills, and improve their canoeing ability.
The pictures show a group of SYG young people enjoying using
the new boats
on the River Cam at Granchester Meadows.
